Kristen
von Hoffmann founded Greenfox Schools in March 2008 in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. Kristen graduated from Yale University in 2006 with a B.A.
in English and also studied conservation biology, international relations, and
agricultural policy. She first developed the Greenfox5™/PFEWG™ model as an
undergraduate at Yale, where she played an integral role in the start-up of the
Yale Sustainable Food Project (YSFP). Kristen received a Sudler Creative Arts
Scholarship from the University in 2004 to document a semester on the YSFP’s
organic farm through photography, interviews, and policy
analysis. After college she started Greenfox and taught 4th, 5th,
and 6th grade for four years. Currently, Kristen is a member of the K-12
Steering Committee for the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable
Development, a United Nations Compact, as well as a former Board Director for
the Boston non-profit ExCL, Extras for Creative Learning. In May 2009
she was invited to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland,to contribute to
the Global Transformative Education Forum. Currently, Kristen is working full
time as a public administrator for the City of Cambridge as the Sustainability
Manager for the Cambridge Public School District, where she's implementing
sustainability for the district. The oldest of three daughters, Kristen was
raised in Montclair, New Jersey, where she attended
the Montclair Cooperative School and Montclair Public Schools.
Ashlee Dahlberg has been involved in Greenfox
Schools since its inception. A passionate environmentalist, she graduated
from Williams College in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science and
Environmental Studies. During college, Ashlee was involved in
several environmental initiatives. In 2005, she interned for the Williamstown
COOL Committee where she compiled data on the eCO2 emissions of the town and
college, and created a Climate Action Plan to reduce emissions. Later,
she played an integral role in creating the Hoosic River Watershed Association
Recreational Assessment, evaluating water quality and appropriate recreational
activities. Ashlee completed her Master’s in Education at Lesley
University in 2010. She spent several years teaching elementary school
before shifting into her current role as Greenfox Schools Director.
Ashlee combines her strength in curriculum development, experience in
environmental research, and love of children to perpetuate the mission of Greenfox
Schools. Raised in rural Idaho, Ashlee enjoys being in the outdoors and
spending time with her husband, Ethan.
As a passionate advocate for public service, in
particular the non-profit sector, Will Nguyen graduated from Northeastern
University in 2010 with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s
Degree in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara in 2008. During graduate school, he provided program
evaluation and support for two non-profits focused on adult education and
after-school youth programs, respectively.
Will also acquired teaching experience with various age groups as a
Teaching Assistant for Foundation Year, a college preparatory program, and as a
volunteer teacher for Peace Games, an elementary school-based program for
violence prevention. He aims to bring
his diverse experience in policy analysis, program administration, and teaching
to his new role as Program Director for Greenfox Schools. A Southern California native by heart, Will
currently lives in Somerville, Massachusetts.
Kiersten Abate, Intern Boston, Massachusetts
Kiersten Abate is a recent graduate of Boston College where she majored in Sociology and Environmental Studies. She currently works as a paralegal, hoping to gain experience both in business and in law before she continues her education. During college Kiersten was an advocate for environmental justice and her senior honors thesis focused on the connection between access to green space and community well-being. She also enjoyed mentoring and tutoring children around
the Boston area and worked with different non-profits to advocate for education. In joining the GreenFox team, Kiersten hopes to combine her passion for education and environmental justice as well as her enthusiasm in order to help the program grow.
Sarah Stickney Boston, Massachusetts Sarah Stickney received her BA in English and
environmental studies from Williams College in 2004. She currently serves
as Executive Director of the TIFF Education Foundation (based in Cambridge,
MA). She also serves as a consultant to the USA Track and Field
Foundation, where she is helping to launch a youth education program lead by
elite US athletes. Sarah was previously employed by the Montshire Museum
of Science, where she ran summer science education programs for kids, by Nomad
Press, where she was an editorial and marketing assistant, and by Dartmouth
College, where she was the development team Nordic ski coach.
Karl Daruwala Cambridge, Massachusetts Karl Daruwala is a senior at Lesley University in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. With the strong passion for working with young children he is
double majoring in “Early Childhood Education”, and “Child Studies”. Throughout
his time as an undergraduate, he has interned/worked at a number of schools
including the Conservatory Lab Charter School and the Fletcher Maynard Academy.
He also currently holds certification to work in any in home daycare center in
Massachusetts. Karl has worked with a diverse array of
children including those with autism and those who come from low SES
households. Although new to teaching sustainability; in joining the Greenfox
program Karl hopes his enthusiasm in the classroom will help children to better
respect their environment and give them the tools they need to create a more
sustainable world.
Cece Santos, Greenfox5 Global Fellow Boston, Massachusetts
Cece
Santos graduated from Escuela de Comunicación Mónica Herrera in El
Salvador in 2008, with a B.A. in Integrated Marketing Communications. Cece
recently completed a second degree online in Education from Universidad Don
Bosco in El Salvador, and is working on developing a new marketing model with a
more social approach to branding while maintaining the core values of
marketing. In the fall of 2009, Cece moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to
work as an Au Pair and to pursue a degree in Branding at Emerson College.
Highly committed to preserving the environment, Cece worked on several college
campaign projects in recent years, combining creative thinking and
environmental education to raise awareness among students. Cece brings her
strength in education, marketing, and research to the Greenfox Team and is
thrilled to have the opportunity to research sustainability in the categories
of the Greenfox5 in Central and South America in her role as a Greenfox5 Global
Fellow. Born and raised in San Salvador, El Salvador, Cece also enjoys spending
time with friends and perfecting her skills in the kitchen.
